John Wesley – Jesus In My Heart

The question posed to everyone in this class is: “What would you like to see Jesus do in your heart as we study the theology of John Wesley?” According to Wesley, entire sanctification is complete salvation from all our sins, from pride, self-will, anger, unbelief, or, as the Apostle expresses it, “Go on to perfection.” It is a gift to be received by faith, not a goal achieved by works. It is the purification and holiness of the believer who is enabled by God’s grace to love God with all their heart and their neighbor as themselves (Wesley, 2017).

As we all study, the theology of John Wesley together in this class, I would like to see Jesus do the following things in my heart: To cleanse me from all my sins and fill me with his love and grace. To help me grow in faith and obedience to his will and word. To help me believe that all people are good. To help me believe that we all do not live in a broken and fallen world. To unite with my fellow believers in Christ and overcome possible divisions or conflicts; to make me a witness to His saving power and a channel of His blessing to others.

Further, as I study John Wesley’s theology, I hope for a deeper understanding and connection with my faith. I want to understand Wesley’s teachings better and how they relate to my beliefs. I hope studying Wesley’s theology will lead to further personal growth. I want to see changes in my attitude, behavior, and my overall Christian worldview. I hope for a spiritual transformation, becoming more aligned with the teachings of Jesus as understood through the lens of John Wesley’s theology. I hope to cultivate a greater sense of empathy and love for others.

I also hope to find ways to apply Wesley’s teachings in my daily life, making my faith a lived experience. I must also remember that everyone’s spiritual journey is unique. What I want to see might differ from what others want. It is also essential that I approach my studies with an open heart and mind.

Blessings,

Lesallan
