Devotional: The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom

Lesallan April 5, 2025

Scripture Focus:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” —Psalm 111:10 (NIV)

Reflection:

As we embark on this journey of exploring philosophy, let us center ourselves on the truth that all wisdom originates from God. Philosophy invites us to ask deep questions about purpose, truth, and morality. Yet the Bible reminds all that reverence for God is the foundation of proper understanding. Following His precepts illuminates intellectual paths and nurtures our spiritual walk.

Consider how this verse encourages us to approach the study of philosophy—not just as an academic pursuit but as a way to draw closer to God’s wisdom and glorify Him in our learning.

Shaping understanding of wisdom and philosophy: The verse highlights that wisdom is not just intellectual prowess, but a spiritual journey rooted in humility before God. Therefore, philosophy becomes a way to understand life’s deeper truths through reason and faith.

Reverence guiding life’s ultimate questions: Our reverence for God encourages us to ask questions not solely for knowledge but for alignment with His will—questions about purpose, morality, and eternity that draw us closer to Him.

Growth in intellect and spirit: This approach nurtures a holistic growth, where intellectual exploration of philosophy complements spiritual maturity, allowing us to glorify God through our learning.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I begin this course, grant me the wisdom that comes from knowing You. Help me to seek truth and understanding not for self-glory but to honor and praise You in all I do. May Your Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path as I ask life’s ultimate questions. Amen.

In Christ,

Lesallan
