Week One Devotional – Revelation
This student would use the word or the phrase “message of hope” to best describe his attitude or feeling toward the book of Revelation. Not only is the book of Revelation a message of hope for those that believe, but a message of hope also for knowing that God is in control of the then, the now, and the future. The message of hope is that when Christ comes again, He will fulfill His promises to all people. God will reward those that through all the hardships, persecution, and temptations found in life, will be given eternal life in His glorious presence. Revelation encourages us to endure many different trials and tribulations with patience and perseverance, knowing that God has a plan and that victory is assured in Christ. For those still yet to believe in Christ, Revelation warns them to repent their sins and believe in Jesus before it is too late. Christ is coming again, and He will have the final judgment for the living and the dead.
Like reading anything else in the Bible, reading, hearing, and keeping Revelation awakens and strengthens our faith in God’s promises and plan for our salvation. Anything read in the Bible can make us blessed because the Bible Is God’s Word, which reveals His character, will, promises, and salvation through Jesus Christ. Reading Revelation will help us to know God better and grow in our relationship with Him because we know that He alone will judge us in the end. We will either be condemned to eternal damnation as unbelievers or walk in the light of God’s love as believers.
During this course of study and instruction, the hope is to gain a deeper understanding of Revelation and its historical, cultural, and literary context. Hope is learning to interpret Revelation’s symbols, images, and figures and what they reveal about God, Christ, Satan, and the future. As students, we can discover how the book of Revelation applies to life and the challenges we must face as we remain faithful and hopeful through all the different trials and temptations. For many, it will equip them to share the gospel with others who also need to hear the good news of Christ’s return.
Blessings!
